About Vital Points Therapy

Acupuncture • Massage Therapy • Occupational Therapy • Alternative Medicine & Services

Our practice brings together traditional physical rehabilitation and complimentary alternative services. At Vital Points Therapy, acupuncture and oriental medicine are offered by therapists who apply Traditional Chinese Medicine safely and expertly.

The staff includes Physical and Occupational Therapists, Acupuncturists, and Chinese Nutritionists. Effective treatments for back pain, shoulder, and hip problems will be available as well as Tai Chi methods to enhance balance, lower blood pressure and relieve stress.

What we offer is a comprehensive multi-system diagnosis and physical rehabilitation therapy. Analysis of the complete information yields a comprehensive and full snapshot of what system is under the most stress.

When we treat that specific system, clients get relief and reports that they feel the difference. Gentle, individualized treatments that are designed specifically for each client are offered here at Vital Points Therapy. We don’t treat a diagnosis, we treat you. Programs to improve functional living, exercises and nutrition classes are offered to support the journey back to a vital life.

Malina is certified as a diplomat in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission in Oriental Medicine.

She has helped people of all ages to take charge of their health and restore independence and balance. She uses a gentle touch to make profound changes in connective tissues to treat pain, adhesions and imbalances.

Describe your services:

I have been a therapist for over 25 years and am certified in Early Intervention. I have treated everything from stroke and trauma patients to premature or injured children. I have developed an expertise in a variety of areas, including autistic children, post surgery neurology, cerebral palsy and manual therapy which includes assessing soft tissue damage. I have completed a Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from the Midwest College of Oriental medicine and furthered my studies at the Guangzhou University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Master’s in Oriental Medicine and bachelors in Nutrition.

I am certified as a diplomat in Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission in Oriental Medicine.

I have helped people of all ages to take charge of their health and restore independence and balance. I use a gentle touch to make profound changes in connective tissues to treat pain, adhesions and imbalances.

What are some benefits/results people see:

The benefits range from pain relief, sense of well-being, daily activities with increased vitality, to a total transformation and paradigm shift toward holistic approach. I have had family members tell me that their father has a new lease on life because he feels better. So much so that he took his summer home off the market and is now clearing fallen trees. There is a book of testimonials in the office filled with stories about children who are better and no longer cry through the night, or having restored vision in a post surgery patient, or simply getting rid of a cold in one treatment. I am humbled in these stories of healing reported to us. When a patient allows healing to come into their lives, the power of this energy is amazing!

Describe a typical session and how someone might prepare for it:

Come as you are!! Every person is unique, so each session is unique. Each session, I ask about factors that influence how you feel, such as how well you’ve slept, the diet changes, how your body might respond to the weather, and any stressors. All those factors impact the approach I take, the points I select and the methods I use. When I do an assessment, I also use my hands to determine the state of your body, locating the specific sites that might be causing the most tension, not moving well, or the organ or meridian that is unhappy. I help people make the connections between life style, emotions, beliefs and physical effects. The complete body, mind, and spirit connections are addressed in order to start the path to wellness.

What makes you different/good at what you do:

I listen to what my patient is telling me and what their body is telling me as well. I make sure each of my patients knows they are valued, understood and that I have addressed their goals for health and wellness. I work on educating and interpreting what your body is communicating. I relate my wide base of knowledge to your specific situation and am able to show the value of taking the first small steps toward health and vitality.

Describe your education/training:

  • BS. Degree in Occupational Therapy – University Ill. Medical Center
  • BS. Degree in Nutrition – Midwest College of Oriental Medicine
  • Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine – Midwest College of Oriental Medicine
  • I have studied manual therapy for over 10 years
  • Currently studying Medical Qi Gong.

ABOUT US / Suzie Woods

Describe your services:

I am a traditionalist at heart and I offer Traditional Chinese Medicine and all its modalities. Acupuncture, which can help to put your body back into balance. Chinese medicine, to help accelerate the healing process. Cupping and Gua Sha, which both help to relieve the body’s muscle tensions as well as pull toxins out. Moxa, a burning herb that helps to tonify and warm the body. TuiNa, a style of Chinese massage.

I specialize in Gastrointestinal disorders, Fertility issues, stress and anxiety, pain and facial rejuvenation.

What are some benefits/results people see:

After a treatment my patients see a decrease in their pain. When there is pain or illness the body is out of balance and with the use of acupuncture your body can go back into balance therefore relieving the pain or illness. Once the patient leaves my office the healing continues with homework. Whether it is advice on foods to eat or stretches to do or breathing exercises, the healing doesn’t stop.

Describe a typical session and how someone might prepare for it:

A typical session consists of a conversation about what is going on with you, both physically and emotionally. The first visit is a very in depth intake followed by the acupuncture. Once the needles are in you will lay relaxed in a dim room feeling your Qi (body’s energy) moving about. It is good to wear loose clothes enabling me to get to acupuncture points if you can’t wear them to the facility there is a place to change into them. The complete body, mind, and spirit connections are addressed in order to start the path to wellness.

What makes you different/good at what you do:

Since I have had my own health struggles I can relate to my patients when they are ill and in pain. Through my own journey to eastern medicine and the healing it has brought me I have found that I need to share this with others and help them through their own journey to health. I also know my limitations and if we are at a stand still and need to go another direction I am the first one to suggest it. I listen; understand love and most of all respect my patients.

Describe your education/training:

I graduated Cum Laude from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine. I have a Bachelors of Arts degree from Columbia College . I am CPR and First Aid Certified as well as Clean Needle Certified. I have been trained in the use of PowR Pens.

Describe your services

I do a variety of integrated massage techniques combined with therapy to help people with chronic pain, injury and stress relief. I am also one of few massage therapists in this area to do pregnancy massage and Ortho-biotomy—which is a gentle and non-invasive technique.

What are some benefits/results people see?

I've found that Ortho-bionomy helps a person's body to reprogram itself from the inside out. This therapeutic bodywork helps body alignment. Really, I help a person's body reprogram itself and tap into its innate self-healing powers.

Describe a typical session and how someone might prepare for it.

There's never been a typical session! In general, I'd recommend a person coming in for massage be well-hydrated. I'd also recommend you eat a light meal before a session, and do not do any heavy drinking for 48 hours before or after a session.

What makes you different/good at what you do?

Apart from the variety of massage and therapy techniques I do? I have more than 10 years of experience as a massage therapist and my work improves a person's well-being. I am dedicated to continue working and learning everything out there to keep doing this work I love.

Describe your education

I am a licensed massage therapist, trained at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts, Arizona with an
Associate Certification in Ortho-bionomy (in progress). I constantly keep ahead of the curve by updating my skills as a professional in the massage therapy field.
